The challenge
Photographers and e-commerce sellers generate thousands of images per project, all of which need consistent culling, correction, and styling. Traditional editing services return work in days; generic AI tools return it in minutes but with inconsistent results and no one to fix the misses. The market needed the speed of AI with the reliability of a professional editing team.
Pycas knew the problem from the inside, having operated a photo and video editing service with its own contractor editing team. The goal was to build a platform that put AI first while keeping humans in the loop exactly where they add value.
What we built
- Project workflow. Customers create projects, bulk-upload media to cloud storage, choose an editing profile, and track progress through processing, review, and delivery.
- AI-assisted editing. Two independent AI engines behind a single job model: style-matched photo editing for photographers, and product-image automation (cutouts, studio finish, lifestyle scenes, ghost mannequin) for e-commerce.
- Quality scoring and human review. Every AI result receives a confidence score. Results below threshold are automatically routed to human editors, so customers never receive an unacceptable edit and editor time is spent only where needed.
- Client review and delivery. Preview, approve, or request rework; final assets delivered via CDN-backed secure download.
- Billing and account lifecycle. Subscription and pay-per-use pricing, a 10-day free trial, first-year promotions, and account management via Stripe.
- Customer outreach. Built-in campaign tooling: contact import, personalized scheduled sends, and open/click tracking.
- Video tooling. Beat detection and analysis to accelerate highlight-reel editing.
Architecture
The platform runs on AWS with clear separation between the web front end, the API, storage and delivery, asynchronous processing, and external services.
